Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Who is zNET?
A. zNET is a national ISP based in San Diego and in business since 1994. We offer nationwide dial-up accounts, dedicated access lines (T1 and DSL), wireless Internet access (fixed-based and mobile), web and mail hosting, domain name hosting and web design services.

Q. Why do I need high speed Internet access for my building?
A. Your tenants need reliable, high-speed Internet access to be competitive in today's marketplace.

Q. Will "InBuildings" service installation disrupt my buildings and tenants?
A. No. Installation is quick and easy. Our equipment is small and does not require a lot of space either in your phone room or in your tenant's suite. Best of all we can transport the service via your existing copper phone lines which means we don't have to tear up your building and you don't have expensive wiring costs.

Q. How does zNET InBuildings benefit my tenants?
A. zNET InBuildings is available in areas where DSL and cable modem are not available (or slow), and is much more cost effective than a dedicated T1. Our product will install in a fraction of the time it takes to get DSL, cable service, or a T1.

Q. Is your service secure and reliable?
A. Yes. The InBuildings service uses a reliable, "always-on" high speed link (1.5Mbps or greater) to deliver high-speed Internet access. zNET also offers optional firewall protection. We have a 99.9% uptime as measured by outside third parties and our management technology separates each tenant's network from each other.

Q. Is zNET the only Internet access provider my tenants can use?
A. No, probably not. Tenants most likely have the choice of installing their own T1 (very expensive), cable or DSL may be available. DSL is distance sensitive so "InBuildings" will have the greatest advantage if your building is far from your local telco central office. But a new "InBuildings" service can be installed to new tenants in 2 or 3 days instead of 4 to 5 weeks and our pricing will probably be lower for the same speed if available by cable or DSL.

Q. How soon can I get my building wired?
A. Installation of the T1 and phone room equipment takes about 4 weeks. Once installed, zNET can deliver high-speed Internet access to any tenant in the building in about 2 days.

Q. Do I have to tell my tenants about this new service or will zNET?
A. With your approval, zNET will gladly contact all of the tenants in your building.

Q. What happens if my tenants have problems with their service in the future?
A. zNET will be here for them. Your tenants can call our toll-free service number at 800-438-9638 24 hours a day, seven days a week for assistance.

Q. What is the service termination policy?
A. Tenants must submit, in writing, a 7-day cancellation notice.

Q. Who buys the equipment that goes in the phone room?
A. zNET will pay for all phone room equipment necessary for the InBuildings product.

Q. Who buys the equipment that goes in the tenants' offices?
A. The tenant will pay for the equipment that goes in their office. Typically, though, as a benefit for your existing tenants we will provide free hardware and installation for tenants who subscribe to the service when we first roll out the service in your building.

Q. Who pays to have the building wired?
A. zNET InBuildings uses existing copper telephone wires already installed in the building going to the tenant's suite. If necessary, we can even layer the service over an existing voice line already in use. That's the beauty of it, we don't need to tear up your infrastructure with expensive cabling.

Q. What if there are no extra telephone wires going to the tenants' offices?
A. The service can be "layered" on top of an existing voice line going from your phone room to the tenant's suite.

Q. Who will actually hook up the tenants' connections? Do I have to?
A. A zNET technician will install all the tenants' equipment.

Q. Will any of my tenants NOT be able to get this service?
A. The service is scalable so it should be available to all tenants. If needed we can increase the capacity of the high speed link to your building to accommodate more tenants later on.

Q. Will all of my tenants want this service?
A. Honestly, "yes", once they realize how fast and cost effective the service is.

Q. What do I do if the T-1 goes down?
A. zNET monitors all of its circuits 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We'll likely be aware of any downed circuit and be working to repair it long before any of the tenants notice. Of course, you can always call us anytime of the day or night at 800-438-9638 to report any problems.

Q. What if none of my tenants want the service right now?
A. As long as the zNET InBuildings phone room equipment is installed, we can deliver Internet access to a tenant in as little as 2 days.
